The table in Leonardo da Vinci’s most famous fresco "The Last Supper" (1497-98), was laid with pewter dishes. This choice was certainly not random, given the meticulous attention to detail that the greatest artistic genius who ever lived applied to every element of his work. Leonardo chose pewter dishes because this metal, with its unique understated quality, blended well with the sanctity of the moment without any interference in terms of colour. This is a replica of the pewter bowl which was in front of each diner in Leonardo’s depiction of the Last Supper, and it has been faithfully reproduced by us.
